Meeting room with a display and camera

Your business number on your computer and mobile phone

With Rainbow, the phone is no longer tied to the desk. Calls, messages and video meetings in one app, with your business number, wherever you work.

What is a softphone?

A softphone is a phone in the form of an app. Instead of answering only on your desk phone, you answer on your computer (with a headset) or your mobile, and clients still call your business number. Rainbow goes a step further: alongside telephony it brings messaging, video meetings and screen sharing, all in one app your colleagues use too.

Questions and answers

Key terms, simply explained

Everything you need to know before introducing a softphone.

What is a softphone?

A softphone is a phone in the form of an app on a computer, tablet or mobile. With a headset or microphone it works just like a desk phone: you make and receive calls from your business number.

What is Rainbow?

Rainbow is Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise's cloud platform for business communication. It brings telephony, messaging, video meetings and screen sharing together in one app.

How is it different from Viber or WhatsApp?

Rainbow uses your business number and is connected to the company call server: calls can be transferred to colleagues, extensions and presence are visible, and the company manages the accounts. When an employee leaves, the account is disabled and the number and contacts stay with the company.

Do we still need a desk phone?

Not necessarily. Some employees work only with a computer and mobile, while reception or meeting rooms still have desk phones. Everything works on the same number, so you choose the combination.

Does it work with our existing call server?

Rainbow can work alongside an existing Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise call server, so you do not have to replace the system to gain mobility and collaboration. We will check your configuration and propose a solution.

What does it mean that the service is in the cloud?

“In the cloud” means the software runs in a data centre rather than on a server in your building. You just use the app, and maintenance and updates are handled centrally. There is also a private cloud for organisations that want full control over their data.

Where is our data stored?

Rainbow lets you choose the data centre, so data can stay within the jurisdiction you select, in line with GDPR. A private cloud is available for stricter requirements.
